Tri-fold covers come in two families. Soft tri-fold covers use vinyl over a frame and cost less. Hard tri-fold covers use rigid panels and give more protection and security. Pick by how much you want to spend, how rigid the lid needs to be and what truck you drive.
- Soft or hard. Soft tri-folds are lighter and cheaper. Hard tri-folds are stiffer and usually lock.
- Truck and bed length. Covers are cut for specific trucks, years and bed lengths. Confirm both before ordering.
- Access. Folding the cover toward the cab opens the rear of the bed, and some covers fold further for full access.
- Clearance. If you run a rack or a crossover toolbox, confirm the cover is listed as compatible.
